Hot Seating – Tuffy

In English, we have interrogated Tuffy from the diary of a killer cat by asking him lots of questions about why he did what he did and how he feels about it.

Some of the questions were:
- Do you feel bad about killing the bird?
- Are you sure the bird flew into your mouth?
- Why did you kill the mouse?
- Why do you not care for Ellie (your owner)?

Poetry
This week, Bluebirds have completed a poet study on Michael Rosen. They have found his poetry very amusing indeed! Yesterday, they heard and read Mad Meals and Mad Drinks which are list poems:
Mad Meals by Michael Rosen
Grilled cork
Matchbox on toast
Glass soup
Roasted clock
Ping pong ball and chips
Acorn sandwich
Fillet of calculator
Trouser salad
Grilled lamp-post
Ice cream (vanilla, soap or pepper)
Mad Drinks
Fizzy Mouse
Hot Petrol
Paint Shake
They had fun composing their own and selected their favourite to make a class one……
Leaf Burger
Fish and Ships
Skin sandwich
Lava chicken
Beetle lasagne
Bogies on toast (sorry!)
Sweaty feet burger
Hair soup
Ding dong sandwich
Legs and eggs
Rat pie
Cat litter icecream
Socks on toast
Pen cake
Paper pie
…..with a rake shake to finish!
Can you suggest what real food Michael should have used instead?
Can you write a list poem and make up some silly food like Michael Rosen?
Performance – Bringing Us Together
This afternoon, Bluebirds practised and then recorded their performance involving playing glocks and singing. Afterwards, they watched the recordings back to evaluate what went well and what could be improved.
Even better if…… everyone starts at the same time (singing and playing) – remembering when to come in!
What went well …… Words were sung well – loudly and clearly, playing the correct note and at the correct tempo.
Outdoor Adventurous Activities

As part of the OAA topic, Year 3 are learning to work as a team to solve different problems.

They had to work as a team to collect as many pieces of ‘treasure’ as possible, listening to others and suggesting ideas to solve the problem.

Trip to the Botanical Gardens
On Wednesday, Bluebirds class visited Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The weather was perfect! How lucky were we?!
We visited the Arid Glasshouse, the Alpine garden, the Bonsai garden, the Mediterranean Glasshouse, the garden’s oldest tree (200 years!), the Tropical glasshouse, the playground and the main lawn (yes….we had a roll down the hill, just like we did in Year 1!). We were excited to see the Koi Carp and Miss Knapman had a special visit from a Red Admiral butterfly! Mrs Parry told the class the flowers and plants she knew the names of and everyone enjoyed smelling the roses. The best pink one was rated 10/10 by our “sniffers!” After our picnic lunch sat on the grass we had a quick power nap in the sun for 5 minutes at the most! At the end, we had a classroom learning session which linked to our Science lessons on plants. We learnt the parts of a plant and flower, how plants survive and how seeds can be dispersed. This involved an interactive activity and Lilly was our bee… she was a very busy pollinator!
Courage
Today, Bluebirds considered what courage means and how we use it to overcome fears. There was quite a list as the children really got their thinking caps on!
heights, trying new food, flying, the dark, water, blood, needles, sky diving, parachuting, taking a test, wasps, spiders, meeting new people, fair ride, zip line, thunder, fireworks, riding a bike, moving to a new school or country, performing in a show and being shut in small places (such as a lift).
Afterwards we discussed and considered ways in how to conquer our fears. We realised sometimes we have to persevere.
Strategies could include reading about the fear or looking at photos of it, mindfulness, happy breathing, practising if it is a skill.
Swimming – Visit a pool and watch what happens, stand in the pool, use floats and armbands, go to a fun session and play in the water.
