Today Bluebirds worked in partners to create a circuit. Mrs Parry challenged the class by just giving the children a pile of equipment. There was some great problem solving, logical thinking and teamwork! The class learnt that electricity needs metal to travel through.

Feelings
Bluebirds listed all the different types of feelings people can feel :
Next, in small table groups, children considered what can affect your feelings (both in a positive way and negative), who could people talk to, how people express their feelings and finally, whether feelings change over time. Everyone agreed that we have different feelings that change. We are never constantly excited, happy or angry!
Bringing Us Together
This morning, Bluebirds listened and appraised their new song for this half term. Emma recognised it was disco/pop and Evie explained it was all about music connecting people together. Thomas L and Brooke began to tap along the pulse and before long, the whole class joined in! The children recognised there was percussion, keyboard and electric guitar. They also acknowledged the vocals ….. everyone’s free and portable instrument!
The class discussed the recent TV programme, Britain’s Got Talent, with a dance/ singing group from Uganda, a choir boy who sang Pie Jesu and a huge choir, who were also sat throughout the theatre, all singing a song about happiness. Bluebirds made links to this and the song they heard today about friendship, hope and peace. Some children acknowledged they can feel emotional or moved by the power of music and song.
Rhythm of the Rain
On Monday afternoon during reading, the Bluebirds looked at the front cover of our new class reader The Rhythm of the Rain by Grahame Baker-Smith. We were looking at making predictions so we focused on the title and the illustration on the front cover.
First, we focused on the word rhythm; Emma thought a rhythm was a tune, Erin thought it was something to do with music, Ollie said it’s a repetitive tune and Massera added that it goes over and over again.
Then we focused on the word rain; Ryan said that rain comes from clouds, Emma added that water evaporates and then is stored in clouds. Edey said that is was water vapour in clouds and Taylor added that the rain falls down drains. Massera said that it also falls in a river and on us, Thomas L said and in the sewers and Thomas S said that rain also lands on the grounds and soaks into the soil.
Looking at the illustration on the front cover, we discussed what we could see; Leah said a whale’s tail, Juwayriya said a waterfall, Roselea said a boy in a boat, Hugo noticed the animals on the rocks, Isla saw a face in the rocks and Thomas S saw the ripples and the vibrations in the water.
Then we talked about what might happen; Erin and Poppy thought that the boy might figure out where the rhythm of the rain comes from. Ella thought that he might be going on a journey and Shenyar noticed the stars by the boat and thought it could be a magical adventure.

Composing and Performing
Bluebirds have finished off their unit of music about The Dragon Song this week. Recently, they have composed notes to this tune and then learnt how to play the correct notes whilst singing the chorus. It was a very big challenge! After the performance, children evaluated what went well and what they needed to improve on in the Summer term. This was a very loud lesson!
