We c ompleted our Science experiment on Friday afternoon. We experimented with different liquids to see which cleaned coins the best. We tried orange juice, milk, sanitiser, vinegar, coke, toothpaste and soap. We tested and recorded the PH of each liquid before putting the coins in and waiting ten minutes. All the children made predictions before the experiment.

Our Dream School
After considering our Nightmare school last week, we decided what our Dream school would include. In small groups we discussed and thought about how children would feel, what would they be most proud of, who could they ask if they needed help, how easy would it be to learn in the school and what was it about the school that would help them to learn.
Next we had to rank the ideas (by voting) as to which was the most important elements of a dream school. Here are our results!
We learnt about the Declaration of Human Rights and that we all have rights and responsibilities.
1. Kindness – Forrest
2. Everyone is happy – Lejaine
3. No arguing so more time for learning – Rishi
4. No distractions or talking – Inaara
Solar Oven Cooking!
Today, Bluebirds began their scientific enquiry unit. The class discussed and clarified what an open/closed question. They learnt some new rocket words including solar, renewable energy, scientific investigation, prediction and plausible. The children considered what the best research question should be. We had some great suggestions and refined our final question after lots of “say it again better” we selected Lojain’s question which was “Which material will be most effective to melt the chocolate?” The class got to work making a solar oven using a shoe box, black card and foil. Then each table used a different material to cover their oven in hopes that their oven would work the best and be the most effective. We set up a control oven and then ones sealed with either cling film, tissue, sandpaper, black plastic, bubble wrap and cotton material. Next we predicted which one would be best and why.
Which one do you think was the most efficient?!
Spoiler alert……..
Due to the increment weather we could only leave the ovens out on the playground for an hour and after 30 minutes sunshine the sky turned black and it became windy so we brought them inside. Then it hailed! Hopefully, we will get chance to pop them outside next week to have another go as by the time we got them inside the temperatures, which had been rising, had dropped again!
However…….two pieces of chocolate had began to melt…….the oven with bubble wrap and the oven with cling film! Did you predict correctly?!
